EV charging time calculator
Enter the car's battery size and the charger speed. The result uses the slower of the charger and the car, so you can match charger speed to how long drivers stay on your site.
How this is worked out
- Power used is the lower of the charger's rating and the car's maximum rate for that type of charger.
- AC charging loses about 10% in the car's onboard charger; DC charging loses about 5%.
- On DC, cars slow down above 80%. We assume an average of 40% of full power above that point.
- Miles added assume 3.5 miles per kWh, a typical figure for a family EV. Real figures vary with the car, the weather and the battery's temperature.
- These are estimates for planning, not a promise of what any car will do.
