Which charge point operators fund chargers on your land, and on what terms?

Several UK charge point operators fund, install and run chargers on a host's land and pay rent, a revenue share or both. None of the 11 we checked publishes a percentage or rent amount. Published differences are lease length (Fastned 20 years or more, Be.EV at least 15) and site minimums, from two bays (EV Plus) to 15,000 vehicles a day (Believ). Checked October 2026.

Which operators fund chargers for site hosts?

Each operator below says on its own website that it pays for the chargers and installation on a host’s land, then runs them and pays the host. The table shows only what each operator publishes. “Not stated” means its page did not say, not that the term is absent from a contract. Inclusion is not a recommendation.

Operator How the host is paid (as published) Lease term Site minimums (as published) Maintenance
InstaVolt Rent for the space used [S1] Not stated Not stated on the partner page InstaVolt [S1]
Osprey Rental income [S2] Long-term [S2] 4+ spaces leasehold; freehold from 0.2 acres [S2] Osprey [S2]
RAW Annual base rent or revenue share [S3] Not stated Not stated Not stated
Hydra Revenue share, fixed monthly, or both [S4] Not stated From 2 charge points [S4] Hydra [S4]
EV Plus Revenue share set per site [S5] Not stated Usually 2 bays; three-phase for 22 kW [S5] EV Plus [S12]
EvieLife Profit share [S6] Not stated Not stated EvieLife [S6]
Zest Ground rent, profit share or site promotion [S7] Not stated Not stated Not stated
GRIDSERVE Base rent, a share of sessions, or both [S8] Not stated 100 m² for a 6 to 24 bay hub [S8] GRIDSERVE [S8]
Believ Annual fee or revenue share [S13] Flexible [S9] 0.2 to 1.5 acres; 15,000 vehicles a day [S9] Believ [S13]
Fastned Fixed and/or variable rent [S10] 20 years+ [S10] 500 m²; road with 20,000 cars a day nearby [S10] Fastned [S10]
Be.EV Bay rental or partnership [S11] 15 years+ [S11] 0.2 to 2 acres; 4+ spaces preferred [S11] Be.EV [S11]

Fastned’s page is written for all its markets, not the UK alone [S10]; confirm its UK terms directly. EV Plus also reimburses the electricity its chargers use [S5], and Osprey says it pays for the grid connection [S2]. Most others do not say who pays for a grid upgrade, so ask.

Which offer fits your site?

The published minimums split the operators into two groups.

  • Destination sites (hotels, pubs, gyms, leisure, retail car parks): EV Plus, Hydra, EvieLife and RAW describe offers for these sites, and EV Plus and Hydra start from two bays or charge points [S3], [S4], [S5], [S6].
  • Rapid hubs near busy roads: Believ, Fastned, GRIDSERVE, Osprey and Be.EV publish land area or traffic thresholds [S2], [S8], [S9], [S10], [S11]. A small site off a main road may not meet those published criteria.

Check your own figures first with the site check by postcode, which estimates local demand and shows grid headroom nearby, and the grid capacity lookup.

What none of them publishes

No operator we checked publishes its revenue-share percentage, a rent amount or a per-kWh payment. That means you can only compare offers once you have them in writing. When you do:

  1. Put the offers side by side on the same usage assumptions with the charger offer comparison tool.
  2. Ask what the share applies to and which costs come off first; see how revenue share works for a host.
  3. Check exclusivity, removal at the end of the lease and early exit before you sign, using the contract checklist.

Next step

If you want offers for your site, tell us about it and we will match you with an installer partner. Piggy Pineapple Ltd operates this referral service. We refer enquiries to installer partners and may be paid a fee. Our owner holds shares in at least one partner. Before passing on your details, we name the proposed partner and disclose whether our owner holds shares in it. See how we work.

Common questions

Which EV charging companies pay landowners to host chargers?

Operators that publish a funded host offer include InstaVolt, Osprey, RAW, Hydra, EV Plus, EvieLife, Zest, GRIDSERVE, Believ, Fastned and Be.EV [S1], [S2], [S3], [S4], [S5], [S6], [S7], [S8], [S9], [S10], [S11]. Each decides site by site, so a published offer is not an acceptance.

What revenue share do charge point operators pay site hosts?

None of the operators we checked publishes a percentage. Ask each for a written offer that states what the share applies to (gross or net receipts), which costs come off first and how often you are paid.

How long is a funded EV charger lease?

Fastned asks for 20 years or more [S10] and Be.EV prefers at least 15 years on leasehold sites [S11]. Osprey says long-term without a figure [S2]; the others do not publish a term.

Do I need a large site to host funded chargers?

Not always. EV Plus normally starts with two bays [S5] and Hydra from two charge points [S4]. Rapid hub operators ask for more: Believ 0.2 to 1.5 acres and 15,000 vehicles a day [S9], Fastned 500 m² near a road carrying 20,000 cars a day [S10].

Who pays the electricity and the grid connection for funded chargers?

It varies. EV Plus reimburses the electricity its chargers use [S5] and Osprey says it pays for the grid connection [S2]. Most operators do not say, so get it in the written offer.
