What is OZEV?
OZEV is the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, the government team supporting the transition to zero-emission vehicles [S1]. Its Workplace Charging Scheme offers eligible installations up to £500 per socket under current guidance [S2]. For your site, check the scheme, installer authorisation and parking eligibility separately before including grant support in a budget. Checked October 2026.
What is an OZEV grant?
OZEV means the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles. It supports government work on zero-emission vehicles and charging infrastructure. The name identifies the government team, rather than a single grant you can apply to every charging project [S1].
Start with your intended use: staff vehicles, your fleet or customer parking. Then identify the relevant scheme. The Workplace Charging Scheme guide explains the workplace route; customer charging needs a separate eligibility check.
How does a workplace grant application work?
Under the Workplace Charging Scheme, the applicant obtains a voucher and an authorised installer claims after installation. Approved equipment and eligible parking are separate requirements. Installer authorisation does not establish that your business or every bay qualifies [S2].
Current guidance gives a cap of £500 per socket for installations completed from April 2026, with support limited to 75% of eligible purchase and installation costs. It covers up to 40 sockets across an applicant’s sites [S2].
For an illustration, not a quote, assume four eligible sockets with eligible costs of £4,000. The percentage calculation is £4,000 × 75% = £3,000, while the socket cap is 4 × £500 = £2,000. The lower limit gives an illustrative grant of £2,000, subject to all scheme conditions [S2].
What should your site check before ordering?
Ask the installer to identify the scheme and the eligible items on its quotation. Request confirmation of the voucher timetable, parking use and what happens if the application is refused. Keep grant support separate from your own budget until eligibility is established.
Read the authorised installer requirements and commercial charger cost guide before comparing proposals. This makes it easier to compare the same scope of work rather than only the headline contribution.

Describe who will use your bays to get matched with an installer that covers your area. Piggy Pineapple Ltd operates this referral service. We refer enquiries to installer partners and may be paid a fee. Our owner holds shares in at least one partner. Before sharing your details, we name the proposed partner and disclose any shareholding in it.
